The emotions are difficult to grapple with. 2019 is our last vintage of L’Espérance.
We believe this wine has defined us through its challenges, and therefore, from the dedication and commitments we have made in the vineyard, barrel selection, winemaking, and aging.
Since the first vintage in 2006, we have considered L’Espérance as working on a sculpture, always evolving, unfinished, morphing. Vintage after vintage, we toiled, carved, chiseled, made subtle grooves into the layers without compromising what the wine would become year after year. Patience, precision, dedication, and complete disregard for the investment.
The sculpture that is L’Espérance is lastly unveiled; it has been and remains a personal favorite, and we are very thankful to many of the great restaurants and to our loyal supporters for the journey and joy that L’Espérance has provided.
A rare vertical release of the compelling elegance and hedonism of this MonoClone Pinot Noir.
This vertical exemplifies how each vintage shapes and reflects the beautiful, subtle variations of five Pinots from a singular site, clone, and cooperage. It is an exceptional opportunity to taste how the weather influences wine. The nuances have roots in Morey St Denis, Chambolle les Amoureuses, and Clos de LaRoche. In 2005, we made our first Pinot Noir from the family vineyard (only 143 cases produced, that’s it!) located in a unique site that we believed would grant us the ability to craft wines with a style that would satisfy our infatuation for the great Burgundies that we love. In 2006, L’Espérance was born out of this vineyard focusing on a clone that would reflect a wine of great aromatics and purity. In 2009, from the same site, we challenged ourselves to make L’Espérance from that single vineyard, a single clone, and allocate a single cooperage barrel house in France to deliver uncompromised focus to the wine. The MonoClone® was born and we registered the trademark to protect our beliefs.
